Meet Gary Creer

With almost thirty years of dealership experience, Gary brings a deep knowledge of automotive requirements to his role at Titan DMS.

Meet Gary Creer

Gary has been with Titan DMS for eleven years, and before that he'd worked in most dealership departments during a varied career in the industry.

To find out a little more about him we asked our "Get to know..." questions and here’s what he said!

Who are you?

I'm Gary Creer (I think you knew that bit!), I was born in Sydney, grew up in Coffs Harbour (always surfing!) and have lived in almost every state in Australia but have called Queensland home for a good while now. I'm married, with three kids, four grandkids and two Dachshunds - "Sumo" and "Daisy".

I had three years in the army after school but that didn't hold my interest so I finished my mechanic apprenticeship and eventually moved into dealerships, covering roles such as Workshop Controller, Service Advisor, Parts Manager, Fixed Ops Manager and various others over the years. I joined Titan about 11 years ago and that's where you find me today.

What do you do?

I’m a Product Engagement Specialist. Broadly, this means I help dealership teams get the most out of our products. That can involve dealer visits and either one-to-one or one-to-many coaching, and it covers the core DMS and our range of web and mobile products. I also get involved in installations when required which is good for a change.

What do you love most about your profession?

I get a real sense of accomplishment from what I do, particularly when I leave a dealership and I know there are people who are now better supported to do their job with the knowledge I've been able to pass on.

What do you most like about working for Titan?

There's a good bunch of people in here - I think you have to like who you work with, right?

I also really like the travel, the variety, and meeting new people. I need to be challenged and stimulated and I definitely get that here. I get stale if I don't have new things to do.

What’s the best piece of advice you have for anyone in your profession?

Listen to your customers. I mean really listen fully, all the way to the end - then you'll actually know what you need to do.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

Definitely a mechanic. I was always taking things apart, or souping things up!

What is your superpower?

Adaptability I think. I'm happy to switch modes and conversations to tackle different challenges and meet the situation no matter what else is going on.

What are we likely to find you doing outside work?

Four-wheel driving would be the main thing. I've got an '03 Nissan Patrol that I've modified in all manner of ways over the years. It's lifted, it's got big tyres, diff locks etc for driving but it's also kitted out with drawers, an oven and fridge, shower, awning and all sorts, so I can be self sufficient for a good while when we go out in the bush.

Can you share a recent success story that really made your day?

I've thought about this one and I'm going to say every time I leave a dealership and feel like I've made a difference is a success story. So. it's probably not a specific one that you were after but genuinely those are the ones that make my day so I'm going to stick with that.

Tell us a book we should read, a film we should watch, and a podcast we should listen to.

Book: Nope. Not a book reader I'm afraid. I'll happily flick through a 4WD Action magazine but that's about as far as it goes.

Film: In the absence of a genuine book answer, I'm going to choose two films. 1) "The Substance" with Demi Moore and 2) "Fackham Hall", which was written by Jimmy Carr.

Podcast: Don't listen to podcasts, maybe I should just think of a third film!

In three words, sum up what makes a great team.

Communication, (shared) Purpose, and Trust

Thanks Gary!
