Meet Shane McMillan

After more than ten years at Tian helping dealers find the right solutions, it’s about time we introduced you to our National Sales Manager (AU/NZ).

Meet Shane McMillan

We wanted to find out a bit more about our National Sales Manager (AU/NZ), Shane McMillan, so we asked him our "Get to know..." questions. Here’s what he said!

Who are you?

I’m Shane McMillan, National Sales Manager for Australia and New Zealand at Titan DMS. Born and bred in South Australia, I live in Adelaide and when I’m not working (or golfing!), I’m usually at home with my family – which includes my wife, my daughter and my hypoallergenic cat (I'm allergic to most cats!).

What do you do?

I lead the sales team for Titan across Australia and New Zealand. It’s a dynamic role that keeps me on the move and constantly connecting with dealerships, partners, and our internal teams. A big part of my job is understanding our clients' unique needs and finding the right solutions within Titan’s offering to help drive their success. I started in the implementation team at Titan in 2014, so I've got a lot of product and "feet on the ground" experience and reckon that helps when it comes to understanding the right solutions for dealers and OEMs.

What do you love most about your profession?

I love the energy that comes from working in sales. Every conversation is different, every dealership has a different challenge to solve, and I genuinely enjoy finding a way to make things work. I’ve always been someone who likes to be on the front foot and in the thick of things, and sales is the perfect environment for that. It’s about relationships and having the ability to influence outcomes – all of which I enjoy.

What do you most like about working for Titan?

The people, without a doubt. We’ve got a good team at Titan and I appreciate being surrounded by talented people that care. It makes a big difference when you know everyone is pulling in the same direction. I also enjoy the autonomy and trust that comes with my role – there’s space to drive your own success, and support when you need it.

What’s the best piece of advice you have for anyone in your profession?

Back yourself, and be prepared. Success in sales doesn’t come from winging it; it’s about being informed, understanding your customer deeply, and building trust. And if things go wrong, learn from it. You’ll always face tough situations or curveballs, but how you respond to those moments is what builds resilience and credibility.

What is your superpower?

I’d say it’s a “can-do" attitude. I bring positivity and energy to everything I do, and I genuinely believe there’s always a way forward.

What are we likely to find you doing outside work?

I'm a keen golfer so it's likely that, but (and I know It's a bit niche) I'm also a bit of a lawn fanatic. I restore old lawn mowers (Scott Bonnar mowers in particular if that means anything to anyone) and I do a bit of consulting on lawn care on the side. Here's a couple of recent examples - not a weed in sight!

Tell us a book we should read, a film we should watch, and a podcast we should listen to.

Film – The Rescue (about the Thai cave mission) – it’s an incredible story of courage, logistics, and international collaboration under pressure.
Book – Hmmm, can I just say the Golf Digest magazine and the Australian Business Review?
Podcast – "Head Game" with Ant Middleton - hard hitting, intelligent, real-life stories with some fascinating guests.

In three words, sum up what makes a great team.

Positive. Energetic. Can-do.

Can you share a recent success story that really made your day?

We had a recent client who was unsure about the scale of transitioning to a new system – very legitimate concerns about the disruption to their daily business and the impact of change on their team. After a few detailed conversations, some creative problem solving, and setting out a formal plan, we got them on board. The implementation went smoothly and seeing their positive feedback afterward was a great moment – it reinforced why we do what we do.

Thanks Shane!
